"Seriously. I don't even have any more room in there!"

Sleep is one of the Biggest Challenges to Come

There’s no shortage of information online about giving birth. However, what most new parents really need is help with sleep. Sleep during pregnancy is a necessary topic to explore. It affects you today, and it can have long-term impacts as well.

Why Aim for Quality Sleep during pregnancy?

The lack of sleep that everyone experiences during the first months of their baby's life is real. The effects can be intense. Focusing on how to achieve quality sleep DURING pregnancy can help you get off on the right foot before your baby arrives.

Would you like to experience:

  • Increased energy?

  • Improved focus with less brain fog?

  • More calmness?

  • Reduced irritability and mood fluctuations?

Ummmm… YES, to all of the above!

5 Tips for More Sleep

1. Allow yourself to lie down and go to bed sooner at night. This sleep will especially allow you to gain more physical energy. Listen to your body when it is asking for sleep.

  1. Propping pillows or a pregnancy pillow under your stomach while on your side, along with a pillow between your knees while lying to the side can add

    some much needed comfort.

  2. Newborns need a lot more sleep than you'd imagine. Getting 16 to 18 hours sleep in a 24 hour period is ideal for newborns. You can use anything that you've found your baby to gain comfort or soothing from that puts them to sleep.

  3. Rest assured, you are doing the right thing for your newborn when they are waking both night and day to feed. This is how newborns are wired.

5. Don't lose any sleep due to concerns of creating bad habits. Newborns are not capable of picking any up. Try to meet their needs as they come up. It takes practice to know what they want and that's completely okay. Have patience with yourself and let your self-compassion through. Speak to yourself the way you would a good friend.

Who Can I Turn to for Better Sleep?

Sleep during pregnancy is exactly what we emphasize in the Baby Steps Sleep Program. We guide you to better places upon your baby's arrival and beyond. Our goal is to ensure you get the right start on sleep. This way, you'll have the best energy and resilience for birthing your baby and parenting afterward, too.

You’ll learn essential strategies, including:

  • The value of a good nap and how to reap the benefits, even if you’ve never been a napper.

  • Understanding why you aren’t sleeping and what you can do about it.

  • How to rest now before your baby arrives.

  • How to cope with the inevitable lack of sleep when your baby is born.
